Fraulein | Shiner Girl

June 27, 2025

Concept

Director Addie Scott Irwin and the Salado team teamed up with Fraulein Boots to craft a joyful, sun-soaked spot in collaboration with rising star Gavin Story, set to his track “Shiner Girl.” The piece captures the carefree magic of girlhood—just gals galavanting in their boots, kicking up dust, and soaking in the spirit and freedom of Austin, Texas.

Together with the marketing team at Fraulein, we created a dreamy Western world that feels both nostalgic and fresh—rooted in fun, friendship, and boots made for more than just walking. From concept to delivery, we worked closely with the brand to bring their free-spirited ethos to life, casting a vibrant group of women and filming at iconic spots around South Congress, including the legendary Continental Club.

This director’s cut is a celebration of joy, movement, and the moments in between—where style meets soul, and every step tells a story.

Tone & Feel

This one’s all about nostalgia, energy, and boots made for city adventures. While many boot brands lean into the typical Western tropes—wide open plains, horses, and dusty trails—we wanted to take a different path. For Fraulein Boots, we dropped the boots into the heart of the city and captured what it really feels like to run around town with your closest friends, no plan, just freedom.

We embraced a playful, cinematic approach—layering in film grain, light leaks, and photo moments to give it a lived-in, sun-faded feel. South Congress became our backdrop, full of neon signs, late afternoon light, and little moments that felt spontaneous and real.

Using a run-and-gun approach, we chased authentic interactions between real friends, letting the story unfold naturally. The small but passionate Fraulein team gave us room to explore and play, and we wanted that same spirit to shine through—where every frame feels like a memory you didn’t know you’d kept.

Production

The concept naturally leaned into a documentary-style execution—naturalistic, observational, and rooted in place. Our production approach followed suit: nimble, spontaneous, and hyper-aware of light, texture, and tone. We anchored the film in iconic Austin settings, including Loro and The Continental Club—two cultural landmarks that echoed the brand’s mix of edge and heritage. These spaces weren’t just backdrops; they added lived-in authenticity and a rich visual palette to the narrative. Rather than hiring traditional talent, we cast a real group of friends. That decision gave us chemistry you can’t fake—organic laughter, shared looks, and a genuine sense of connection that brought the boots (and the story) to life.

We shot on the ARRI Alexa 35 paired with Master Primes, opting for a wide-open aesthetic that gave us shallow depth and creamy highlights. The camera package allowed us to move quickly while maintaining cinematic integrity. Our crew operated with a run-and-gun mentality: minimal lighting, mostly handheld, responsive to the environment. That flexibility let us chase moments rather than manufacture them. It also meant capturing golden-hour shots in motion and finding pockets of unexpected magic between takes. Stills were captured alongside motion, using the same sensibility—rich, candid, and textured. Every frame was treated like a moment pulled from a memory, not a stage.

The final piece feels like a weekend snapshot of Austin’s soul. Not just a product film, but a window into a lifestyle—one where Fräulein fits seamlessly.

Post-Production

Diving right into post, The final assets included a high-energy edit of the full spot, a cutdown version for social use, and a full suite of product and on-model photography for the Fraulein Boots Campaign.

We collaborated with editor Liam Gaffney to bring an added layer of energy and flair to the final piece, keeping the spirit of spontaneity and movement alive throughout. Watching the project take shape in post was a joy, and we’re incredibly grateful to have worked alongside such a creative, tight-knit team—including Fraulein’s Creative lead Winnie Gordon.

We’re thrilled by the response this video has received and can’t wait for future collaborations that celebrate storytelling, style, and a little bit of fun.
